An HVAC system is one of the biggest investments that you will make for your home. After all, it is the system put in place to help you stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. But how often do you think about the longevity of your air conditioning system until it is too late?
Repairing your air conditioning system may be costly and an inconvenience to you, and in some cases, it is better to replace the entire system as a whole. So, it’s important to recognize when it is time to either repair or replace your HVAC system. Here at
Jeff’s HVAC, we work hard to make the process of replacing your system easier for you.
Here are several signs that signal you need to replace your air conditioning system:
More Than 10 Years Old
Air conditioners should be replaced after more than 10 years. If there hasn’t been any maintenance made to your air conditioning system in more than ten years, then it is considered inefficient. Plus with the rise in technology, modern HVAC systems aim to be more energy-efficient and smarter, that way, using your HVAC will be easier and more convenient for you.
High Utility Bills
The price of your energy bill should be consistent each month. However, a high utility bill usually indicates that your air conditioner is not as efficient as it used to be and it may need to be checked and repaired or replaced. According to the Department of Energy, you can save 20-40 percent of your cooling energy costs by simply replacing your air conditioning system.
Loud Noises
Noises such as banging, clanking, and buzzing can signal that there may be loose or broken parts in your HVAC system. If these noises are not checked, or they remain after repair, it is a signal that your air conditioning system needs to be replaced. Old systems tend to be loud as well, and as we know, once they get old they are not as efficient as when you first used your A/C.
It Costs More to Repair Than to Replace
As time goes on, it is normal to have repairs done on your HVAC system. Some parts are replaceable and not all problems require complete replacement. Yet if repairs appear to become constant, a decision must be made on whether the price for constant repairs outweighs the cost of a new system. In some instances, replacing your HVAC system saves you more money in the long run.
